Clomiphene Citrate versus Letrozole in the Treatment of Anovulatory Infertility: A Randomized Controlled Trial
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Ovulatory dysfunction accounts for 20-25% of the cases infertility. The main treatment modality anovulatory infertility is ovarian stimulation. Clomiphene citrate (CC) and letrozole (LET) are drugs choice but which best first line debatable. Objective: Compare outcome by CC LET. Method: A prospective randomized controlled trial including two groups subfertile patients was carried out at a tertiary care center were to either 50 mg (n=127) standard used as control LET 2.5 (n=121) drug off labelled, yet currently prescribed sub-fertile daily from 2nd 6th day menstrual cycle. Follicle number on 12, endometrial thickness, pregnancy rates multiple pregnancies assessed. data analyzed using MINITAB 14. Results: mature follicles count (>18mm) 12 not significantly different in (CC: 1.323± 0.935 LET: 1.175±0.797). However, mean thickness treated higher than group (0.7691±0.0887 cm 0.695± 0.134cm respectively). clinical rate (49% vs. 38%). There no significant difference miscarriage (16% both arms). Conclusions: enhances compared with ongoing rates. may be due its favorable effects receptivity owing less anti-estrogenic properties.

BACKGROUND The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to compare the efficacy of extended letrozole regimen with clomiphene citrate in women with unexplained infertility undergoing superovulation and intrauterine insemination (IUI). METHODS Two hundred and fourteen patients with unexplained infertility were randomized into two equal groups using computer generated list and were treated b...
متن کاملLetrozole or clomiphene citrate as first line for anovulatory infertility: a debate
Clomiphene citrate has been traditionally used as the drug of choice in treating women with anovulatory infertility. In the last decade letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor has emerged as alternative ovulation induction agent. Literature confirms that letrozole has a definitive role in anovulatory women who have not responded to the clomiphene therapy. However its role as an alternative to clomiph...
متن کاملClomiphene citrate versus letrozole with gonadotropins in intrauterine insemination cycles: A randomized trial
BACKGROUND Clomiphene citrate is one of the effective drugs for infertility treatment due to oligo-ovulation or anovulation. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is one of more adherent methods for treatment of infertile cases which is followed by controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). OBJECTIVE the aim of this study was to evaluate Clomiphene citrate versus letrozole with gonadotropins in IUI...

Evidence • Systematic review of RCTs of antiestrogens in PCOS1: -In 3 RCTs (N = 133) that examined clomiphene (50 to 250 mg/d, 1 to 5 cycles) versus placebo, the pregnancy rate was higher with clomiphene (20% vs 3%); the number needed to treat (NNT) was 6. Live births and miscarriages were not reported. -Limitations: small sample, variable dosing and number of cycles, high dropout rate, poor ad...
